Big turnout at first practice; still time to sign up for fall flag and tackle programs

rugby first practiceIt was a field of rugby dreams. The most players I’ve seen turn out for Pelham Youth Rugby were at last Friday’s first fall practice. Flag and tackle participants worked in groups all over the field at Prospect Hill School. In the picture, you see the oldest boys working with Coach Matt Persanis, while different clusters of younger tackle players go through drills in the background. The flag kids are off the picture to the left.

Come join the fun. Register now for fall flag and tackle. Click this link for the form you need to fill out, and send it back right away to Pelham Recreation.

Pelham Rugby is open to kids from towns outside of Pelham and is one of the very few youth rugby programs in our region.

Here’s the schedule for the Monday and Friday sessions at Prospect Hill:

  • 5:00-6:00 pm (flag for grades 2-5)
  • 5:00-6:30 pm (tackle for grades 6-10)

Elementary players will be eligible for Sunday tournaments at Chelsea Waterside Park. Tackle players will play a season of games against other teams in the MET NY Tackle League.
